GRANTS
Pell
Maximum is $1577 per quarter to eligible students. All students may apply by
submitting the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for the current
year. You may pick up an application at your high school guidance office or
by contacting Newport Business Institute at 724.339.0455. The application may
also be filed on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
PHEAA
Maximum is $1,334 per quarter to eligible students. For more information, please
contact Newport Business Institute at 724.339.0455 or the PHEAA Grant Division
at 1.800.692.7392. You may also visit the PHEAA web site at www.pheaa.org.
When you complete the FAFSA, you are actually applying for the PHEAA grant
also.
DEADLINE
FOR PENNSYLVANIA STATE GRANT
FOR THE 2008-2009 AWARD YEARS
Students
who received a Pennsylvania State Grant disbursement for the
2008-09 award years must submit the FAFSA before May 1, 2008.
Students
who did not receive any disbursement of state grant funds for
the 2008-09 award years must submit the FAFSA before August 1,
2008.
Newport
recommends that you complete the Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon after January 1, 2008 as possible.
LOANS
Federal
Family Education Loans
Subsidized - This low interest loan
of up to $3,500 for the first academic year and up to $4,500
for the second academic year is available to qualified students
enrolled in eligible programs. NOTE: Repayment does not begin
until six months after your last day of attendance and may
be spread over a period as long as ten years.
Unsubsidized - An additional $4,000 per year is available to
independent students. Note: Repayment does not begin until six months after
your last day of attendance and may be spread over a period as long as ten
years.
Parent Loans (PLUS) – Parents of dependent undergraduate
students may borrow under this program. Applications may be requested by calling
AES/PHEAA at 1.800.692.7392 or may be picked up at Newport Business Institute.
Parents also have the convenience of applying from their own computer at www.aessuccess.org,
24 hours a day.
Student Assistance Loans from other states - Similar to PHEAA
loans, these loans are available to qualified out-of-state students through
their home states' higher education agencies.
SCHOLARSHIPS -
Lower Burrell
FBLA Scholarship
Newport Business Institute may award two scholarships valued at up to one-half
of the total tuition cost. Recipients must be high school seniors, and the
scholarship is based on academic excellence and good moral character. Deadline
is February 28. Contact Newport Business Institute for more information.
Adult Scholarship
Newport Business Institute may award three scholarships a year valued at up
to one-third of the total tuition cost. These scholarships are awarded to students
who have been out of high school for at least one year. Deadline is three weeks
prior to the start of the applicant's first or second quarter. Please contact
Newport Business Institute for more information.
Merit Scholarship
Newport Business Institute may award three merit scholarships a year valued
at up to one-third of the total tuition cost. The scholarships are awarded
to current high school seniors. Deadline is May 1. Please contact Newport Business
Institute for more information.
Jeanne H. Mullen Scholarship
Newport Business Institute may award two scholarships a year valued at total
tuition, fees, books, and supplies (less any grant aid) until the recipient
graduates. The scholarship is open to all Oakmont Country Club Caddies. Deadline
is March 15. Please contact Newport Business Institute for more information.
DECA Scholarship
Newport Business Institute awards one scholarship a year valued at up to one-half
of the total tuition cost. The recipient must be a member of DECA, a
high school graduate and must maintain academic excellence. Deadline is May
1.
Alex Goshorn Memorial Scholarship
Newport Business Institute may award two scholarships valued at up to one-half
of the total tuition cost. Recipients must be residents of Highlands School District,
where Alex attended school. The scholarship is based on scholastic ability, moral
character, and financial need. Deadline for the scholarship is three weeks prior
to the start date of the applicants first quarter.
FEDERAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS
G.I.
Bill
Veterans eligible for education and training under Title 38 of the United States
Code are entitled to a legislatively set monthly allowance from the Veterans
Administration while attending the school in an approved full-time program
of study.
War Orphans Educational Assistance
This program provides financial aid for the education of sons and daughters
of veterans who died during, or as a result of, active service. Benefits
are similar to these of the G.I. Bill, Dependents of disabled or deceased veterans
my also be eligible for this program.
Vocational Rehabilitation for Veterans
Veterans disabled during wartime and under certain peacetime service may be
eligible for educational benefits and training.
Other State and Federal Programs
Financial assistance may be available through such government programs as Workforce
Investment Act (WIA), Bureau of Indian Affairs (for America Indian Youth),
State Office of Vocational Rehabilitation and Training Rehabilitation (TRA).
